House & Home - From Cottagecore to Tablescaping: New research unveils TikTok’s top home design trends

New research has unveiled TikTok’s trendiest home design features and items, with aesthetics like Cottagecore, DIY, and farmhouse décor all appearing in the ranking.

The research team at the sheet materials supplier, Sheet Materials Wholesale, analysed TikTok hashtag data to determine which home design trends and items have amassed the highest number of uploads on the site.

The trends and items with the highest number of TikTok posts then determined the final ranking.

The most popular home design aesthetics:

According to the data, #Cottagecore is the most popular home design aesthetic on the app, amassing a total of 2.2 million TikTok posts. The Cottagecore trend is all about embracing the aesthetic of countryside living, and it’s had a staggering influence on fashion, cooking, and home design trends in recent years.

Cottagecore-inspired homes often place focus on vintage furniture, soft colour palettes, and delicate floral prints. The research also shows how Cottagecore-related hashtags have been dominating TikTok’s home design trends in recent months, with #CottagecoreDecor pulling in another 11,000 uploads on the site.

#Woodcarving is identified as TikTok’s second-trendiest home design aesthetic, attracting 213,700 posts on the site. Over the years, TikTok has become a hotspot for people sharing their crafts and DIY skills, which has led to wood carving videos pulling in millions of views.

The trend also aligns with the wider Cottagecore aesthetic, where there’s been a rise in homes returning to rustic and homemade décor. Handcrafted wooden furniture undeniably adds a unique sense of character to a house and aligns with the current revival of the antique furniture aesthetic.

#DIYDecor was found to be the third-most popular home design aesthetic on TikTok, featuring in 207,400 uploads on the site. From woodwork to pottery, TikTok has a knack for making creative pastimes look irresistible. Videos showcasing artists and DIY enthusiasts at work have attracted millions of views over the past year, motivating viewers to join in on the trend.

As well as adding personality to your home, the resurgence of DIY décor is also a response to rising cost-of-living rates. As the price of home décor pieces continues to climb, handmade pieces are a fantastic way to make your home feel your own while on a budget. This also aligns with the fact that #AffordableHomeDecor has amassed 25,500 posts on TikTok.

The research found that #FarmhouseDecor is TikTok’s fourth-most popular home design aesthetic, amassing 128,500 uploads. Much like Cottagecore, farmhouse-inspired décor takes inspiration from the tranquillity of countryside living.

The trend rejects the notion of making a home feel overly styled, instead creating spaces that feel lived-in. Classic staples of the farmhouse aesthetic include colourful rugs, olive-green kitchen cabinets, and antique wooden furniture.

#Tablescape was unveiled as TikTok’s fifth-most popular home design trend, pulling in 93,500 uploads across the site. Recently,  #Hostingcore has risen in popularity - a trend that glamorises the art of hosting the perfect dinner party. As part of this trend, tablescaping emerged as a popular aesthetic, which is ultimately all about shaping your dinner table décor to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible.

Classic staples of this trend include nameplates written in calligraphy, a bouquet of freshly picked flowers, colour-coordinated napkins, and textured table runners. The trend also fits into TikTok’s wider popularisation of romanticising simple rituals at home, transforming a dinner party into moments of visually appealing creativity.

Overall, the data shows that Cottagecore-inspired trends dominated TikTok’s most popular home décor aesthetics, with #RusticDecor attracting another 83,700 posts. Rustic décor is all about mirroring the natural materials, earthy textures, and welcoming warmth of traditional rural homes in the countryside.

Once again, the trend embraces imperfections and handmade craftsmanship, rather than sleek and polished spaces. Handmade or vintage furniture plays a huge part in the rustic aesthetic, with pieces often forming a colour palette of dark browns, sage, and charcoal.

#DopamineDecor is another popular aesthetic on the site, featuring in 72,700 TikTok posts. The trend is all about rejecting the modern home aesthetic and instead decorating your space with bright colours, mismatched textures, and plenty of trinkets.

Instead of the cream or grey colours associated with modern new-build homes, dopamine décor is all about embracing a lack of a colour scheme and design experimentalism. Layered prints and brightly painted walls are often staples of this trend.

#Eclectic was found to be the eighth-most popular home design trend in the ranking, amassing 67,900 posts on TikTok. Much like the dopamine décor aesthetic, Eclectic Chic is all about embracing mismatched styling.

The trend is all about vibrant design and experimenting with a range of textures, prints, and patterns. The trend reflects the wider craze of creating a home that feels unique and lived-in, instead of flawlessly polished.

#CosyHome is identified as the ninth-trendiest home décor aesthetic, attracting 60,200 TikTok posts. The trend is all about filling your home with warm lighting, textured throws, and fleece blankets. Often featured as the backdrop of night-time routine videos, the cosy home aesthetic feeds into TikTok’s wider popularisation of domestic rituals.

On the opposite end of the scale, #GothicDecor is TikTok’s tenth-trendiest aesthetic, with 42,200 uploads across the site. Over the year, there’s been a notable resurgence of the horror genre, with films like Nosferatu and Sinners gaining widespread traction. Based on the popularity of this hashtag, it’s clear that this has also had an impact on home design trends.

Gothic décor staples include moody colour palettes, antique accessories, and heavy oak furniture. Once again, the trend pays credit to a bygone era and advocates for individualism, instead of following modern aesthetics associated with new-build homes.

However, the modern aesthetic still prevails in 2026, attracting 30,200 TikTok uploads. Other popular home design aesthetics include #ThriftedDecor and #GlamDecor.

The most popular home design items:

The data also reveals some of the most in-demand home design items, according to TikTok.

In keeping with the cold winter months, #Blanket is TikTok’s most popular home item, generating an impressive 854,600 TikTok posts. The trend echoes TikTok’s promotion of comfort and tranquillity in home décor trends.

Heated blankets, in particular, have seen a sharp rise in interest, with their hashtag reaching 35,600 posts, while #FleeceBlanket appeared in 23,600 uploads.

Flower bouquets are identified as the second-most popular hashtag on the social media site, pulling in 562,100 TikTok uploads. In keeping with the wider Cottagecore trend, bouquets easily add a welcoming and lived-in feel to any home.

They also offer a fantastic way to update your interior décor to align with the seasons. For example, bouquets consisting of soft pastels are perfect for the spring, while bright red roses surrounded by eye-catching greenery make a fantastic addition to your home throughout the winter season.

In keeping with TikTok’s cosy aesthetic and rural-living trend, fireplaces are crowned the third-most popular home design piece on the site, drawing in 299,400 posts. A fireplace naturally becomes the centrepiece of a room, making it both a sought-after and practical home design feature.

As the winter months set in, a home with a fireplace is a great way to keep the cold evenings at bay while also providing a much-needed space to unwind. This design element also feeds into TikTok’s wider popularisation of rustic décor. #Logcabin has amassed 54,000 TikTok posts, while #LogBurner has attracted a further 12,200 uploads.

The study found that #Pyrography is TikTok’s fourth-trendiest home design piece, amassing 167,300 uploads. Pyrography is the art of decorating wood with a heated tool, resulting in sought-after and unique handmade pieces. The art style feeds into the wider trend of turning away from mass-produced products and instead embracing handcrafted pieces.

TikTok has also had a huge part to play in reducing the popularity of the ‘big light,’ in which homeowners are swapping the main overhead light for the warmer tones of table and desk lamps. #TableLamp has drawn in an impressive 101,600 posts on the site, showcasing TikTok’s popularity of cosy and relaxing aesthetics in the home.

Other popular home design pieces include fairy lights, LED mirrors, and media walls.

Max Fetisov, the Head of Marketing and E-commerce at Sheet Materials Wholesale, has commented on the research:

“It’s fascinating to see which home design aesthetics have increased in popularity thanks to TikTok.

“Interestingly, the data shows that there are common aesthetics that unite these home design aesthetics and items, mainly involving the rejection of mass consumerism and instead promoting homes that feel more lived-in and unique.

“Many of these trends promote individualism rather than trying to create the perfectly styled home, which is an interesting development in home design trends.

“In fact, many of these home design aesthetics, particularly Cottagecore, are reminiscent of a bygone era, showing how home décor trends are gradually turning away from the modern aesthetic.

It’s also interesting to observe how many design aesthetics are embracing DIY décor, something that can clearly align with the increased prices of home decoration and renovation.

“The research also shows that there is a recurring theme of romanticising domestic living in all these trends, particularly when it comes to rustic décor and tablescaping.

“This feeds into the wider trend of TikTok popularising videos that feel comforting to watch, particularly when it comes to cosy night-time routine clips or relaxing deep-clean videos.

“TikTok has also created a resurgence in domestic pastimes like home cooking and crafting, which is evidently something that has influenced home design trends.”
